Only a few weeks ago a former atheist preached a gospel message at Faith Baptist Church in Emalahleni, South Africa. Clive is presently a journalist for The Witbank News, and for much of his life he was an active atheist. But while in university Clive met Corlene. Corlene faithfully witnessed to Clive, and after four months he received Jesus Christ as his Saviour. After two years Clive married Corlene, and not long afterwards later they began attending FBC.

Three years ago on a Saturday afternoon Clive shared with me, “I don’t want to be a journalist anymore.” Thinking he was just looking for a different job, I asked what he was interested in doing. His reply shocked me. Clive answered, “I see so many people who know nothing about God, and I want to help them to know God.”

The next week I spent four hours speaking with Clive—I wanted him to understand the price he would pay and the blessings he would encounter by following Christ in full-time gospel ministry. The more I talked, the more excited he became. Now, three years into his training, Clive is more resolute than when he began, and he and Corlene continue to be wonderful testimonies of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Pray for this young couple as they finish their formal training, and for us as we mentor them for ministry. Paul told Timothy, “…the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” (2 Tim 2:2). Clive and Corlene are one of the many reasons that we are in South Africa; they are why you have partnered with us—that we may commit the gospel of Christ to another generation.
